The selection of projects is made by evaluators who come from the fields of science, research, and development on the basis of pre-defined evaluation criteria. These criteria are also listed in the Online Manual (Selection – From evaluation to grant signature).

Ideally, you should start the application process 5-6 months before submission. This period is roughly split in three phases: conception, writing and submission.
After submission, applicants usually receive their evaluation results from the Commission within three months. If the proposal has been successful, the consortium is invited to contract negotiations. It takes a further 3-4 months until the effective project start.

Applicants can improve their chances themselves by defining their own topics and introducing them to the work programme by means of lobbying. In this way, they are ahead of their competitors even before the publication of the call and therefore also have more time for preparation.
